Class Summary – January 13, 2017 – Representatives from Scroll and Soapbox

Representatives from two on-campus communication businesses visited us today. One was called Scroll, the school newspaper. They spoke to us about the different job opportunities and experience we could get from being a part of the newspaper, such as learning how to produce news videos and how to write and edit news stories. The other organization was called Soapbox. They focused on advertising through video production, demonstrating many of the projects they have already done. They told us that we could gain experience in programs such as Adobe Premiere and After Effects. It looked pretty cool and I would like to join.

Class Summary – January 19, 2017 – Journalism

The lecture was about how we need better writers in this world. Apparently the Wall Street Journal is one of the best written newspapers. He feels we should be more informed in the news. Journalism helped expose the Watergate scandal.He also invites us to blog. He also exhorted us to share the Gospel through social media.

Class Summary – January 26, 2017 – Video Production and Broadcast Journalism

The lecture was about how video production works. They showed a lot of videos. Live broadcasting takes a lot of pressure. The most popular thing on the internet is video. Despite the rise of the internet, broadcast video will never go away.

Class Summary – February 2, 2017 – Visual Emphasis

The lecture was about the visual communication major. Visual students learn about sketching, color, and typography. The visual module will help with other communication majors, such as video production.  Vector graphics are pictures that can be scaled to any size without pixelating. This is useful for logos, shirts, and stickers. You can take stock photography more than once.
